Tough competition Freestyle! Friday, August 20, 2010
Athletes swim with enormous effort Athletes with a physical disability, in class S2, started their heats. Class S2 M In the men’s heats, it was the Russian Dmitry Kokarev who finished first in a time of 2:24.98. He was followed by the Polish Jacek Czeck who was the second to qualify for the finals (2:29.09). The third to to qualify was Francesco Bettella. He finished in a time of 2:31.42. |
| World record holders again the fastest Friday, August 20, 2010
Times in heats close together This morning athletes with a visual disability, swimming in class S11, S12 and S13, started the heats. Class S11 M/W The Chinese Bozun Yang was the first to qualify for tonight’s finals. He finished in a time of 1:10.71. His world record has been in his name since 2008. Viktor Smyrnov from the Ukraine finished second. It was an exciting race because within a second the Canadian Tildesley also finished the race. Also in the women’s heats, the world record holder was the first to qualify for the finals. Daniela Schulte finished in a time of 1:22.10. This is two seconds from her world record. Second to finish was Cecilia Camellini from Italy. She finished in a time of 1:23.41. The Japanese Rina Akiyama was the third swimmer to qualify for tonight’s finals with a time of 1:24.11. These women swam a lot faster than their competition. Number four was over seven seconds behind number three. The competition for the medals looks decided. The numbers four until eight would have to do their very best to keep up with the top three. |

Dutchman Maurice Deelen through to finals with fastest time This morning athletes with a physical disability, in class S8, started their heats. Class S8 M/W In the men’s heats it was the Dutchman Maurice Deelen who finished with the fastest time (1:00.00). He was followed by the Russian Konstantin Lisenkov who was the second to qualify for the finals (1:00.54). The third to finish was Peter Leek from Australia (1:00.85). The first to finish in the women’s heats was Jessica Long from the United States of America. Jacqueline Freney from Australia finished second and Stefanie Weinberg from Germany was the third to qualify for tonight’s finals. Lisa den Braber from the Netherlands qualified for the finals with the sixth time. |
