Eindhoven/Kuala Lumpur, November 24, 2009 – Last weekend the Foundation WC Swimming announced the support of Pieter van den Hoogenband to the organization of the 2010 IPC Swimming World Championships Eindhoven. With a video message during the IPC General Assembly in Kuala Lumpur, Van den Hoogenband invited all the NPC’s to participate in the World Championships which are held from August 15 to 21 2010. The Championships will take place in the Pieter van den Hoogenband Swimming stadium in Eindhoven and the ‘E3 Beach’ in Eersel.
As ambassador Van den Hoogenband, winner of three golden medals during the Olympics, is delighted that again a big top level sporting event will take place in Eindhoven: ‘After the European Championships Swimming in 2008, another exiting Championships will take place in ‘my’ city and ‘my’ swimming stadium. Of course I’m proud that Eindhoven will host one of the biggest swimming events in the world. It will be my honor to support the Championships and hereby I invite everybody to attend the Championships in August next year. I’m convinced that all athletes, visitors and others will experience the hospitality of Eindhoven.’

Henny Smorenburg, tournament director of the 2010 IPC Swimming World Championships, is very happy that Pieter van den Hoogenband is one of the ambassadors: ‘He’s still an idol inside and outside the swimming community. Besides that swimming and Pieter are inseparable. To associate his person with our Championships really contributes to the whole experience of the visitor.’
